NAXOS ANIMAL WELFARE SOCIETY

Executive Committee

Oversight Committee

July 2026 – July 2028

Elected July 2026 for a 2 year term– working to pursue our mutual goal to protect and help the animals of Naxos.

PRESIDENT

Alexandra Voulgari

My family is from Naxos and I have spent every summer of my life here. I fell in love with this place so much I decided to move here 4 years ago. I have always had a very strong connection to animals and coming here gave me the perfect opportunity to be around them more. I started taking care of some cats that were around my house, they were 27 at the time and I started needing help. NAWS was a tremendous help in so many ways that I knew I wanted to be part of this community, who helped in every way possible, always putting the animals' well being first. It takes courage to fight for someone that can't ask for help or express pain or gratitude. And this task is never easy. But I found a home in this community, and a sense of belonging, fighting alongside people who see what I see, who always dream of a better tomorrow. It is an honour to be the president of this incredible organisation who has helped thousands of animals in need and we will continue to do so with all our hearts.

I started helping out at the NAWS dog shelter in 2013 and was immediately inspired by a wonderful group of mostly women who dedicated their time and hearts to caring for stray dogs and cats.
The most rewarding part for me is being part of an animal's journey—from life on the streets to finding a safe, loving forever home.
Seeing that transformation is what keeps me motivated every day.

Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast of the Semantics, a large language ocean. A small river named Duden flows by their place and supplies it with the necessary regelialia. It is a paradisematic country, in which roasted parts of sentences fly into your mouth.
